Reminder: Draft EIS comments accepted through Oct. 19

Sept. 28, 2011 – Public feedback regarding the Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the Chokecherry and Sierra Madre Wind Energy Project is being accepted for three more weeks, through Oct. 19. The BLM published its findings in July after more than three years of environmental analysis; the comments gathered may be considered in BLM’s Final Environmental Impact Statement, expected to be published next year.

To share project support and comments about the Draft EIS, contact BLM at WYMail_PCW_windfarm@blm.gov or by mail at:

The 2,000-3,000 MW wind farm will provide multiple benefits to Carbon County, including at least 114 permanent jobs, hundreds of millions of dollars in tax revenue over the project’s lifetime, and additional business opportunities for hotels, restaurants, banks, surveying firms, and various supply chain industries – both during and after construction.

The project will also be able to diversify the area’s economy and includes a comprehensive conservation plan designed to avoid, minimize and mitigate impacts to the site’s wildlife and ecosystems.

Informative handouts PCW provided to attendees at recent Draft EIS open houses in Rawlins and Saratoga are now available online as well.
